Saturday, June 3: A full day of riding and educational seminars, culminating with what promises to be an evening full of fun and laughter. A dinner and auction will be hosted by local entertainer, Gordie West. Come prepared to have a great time!
Sunday June 3rd the weekend will wrap up with a pancake breakfast and of course, there will be Cowboy Church. Folks are welcome to ride the beautiful trails before heading home.
An Overview of Activities:
“Participation” is the focus of the 2012 Rendezvous, hosted by the South Cariboo Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen of BC. Why not trailer your horse up to the scenic Cariboo and spend time out on the trails! You’ll meet old friends, make new ones, and have the opportunity to learn some new skills you’ll find helpful to both you and your horse at home or out on the trails.
With this in mind, we’re pleased to offer a variety of activities, seminars and demonstrations to benefit you and your equine companion.
Riding
Nearby trails will be marked so you can ride at your leisure. Local members will be available and keen to ride along in case you are directional challenged!
A trail class course will be set up to challenge rider and horse on different obstacles. Friday morning there will be a qualified instructor on site to help you and your horse with the different challenges these obstacles will bring. The course will remain in place for the balance of the day on Friday as well as Saturday morning for practice at your leisure. On Saturday afternoon, there will be a good-natured judged competition. We would like to invite one horse and rider from each Chapter to participate so we can determine which Chapter comes out on top. Hopefully this will result in a “Throw Down” challenge in 2013!
Carriage Driving
This is a rapidly growing activity in the Cariboo and throughout the province. On Friday and Saturday, we will offer carriage driving sessions with an Equine Canada certified driving instructor who will go over what is required to make your trail horse a driving horse as well.
Dutch Oven Cook-off
What would a Rendezvous be without a Dutch oven cook off and a packing challenge? Come on Chapters! In the spirit of sportsmanship let’s find out which Chapter can compete for the best cook and who can be the quickest tying that diamond hitch.
Educational Sessions
Loni Koch, Certified Equine Sports Therapy practitioner, will be present to talk about how various therapies can help your equine partner.
Emily Sonntag, Invasive Plant Management Coordinator for the Cariboo Regional District, will offer a presentation about invasive weeds and also host a ride for a first hand look at weeds in our area.
Dr. Walsh, D.V.M., Williams Lake Veterinary Clinic, will be discussing a variety of equine issues, with a focus on how to treat injuries that could occur on the trail.
Ron Burfoot, master farrier and horseman, will demonstrate different ways to play with your horses through groundwork. Watching his horses on the teeter-totter is amazing! Ron has great fun working with his horses and his demonstration is not to be missed!
Randy Brodoway, a knowledgeable local horseman and businessman, will be available to discuss saddle-fitting issues on a one on one basis.
Geocaching is one of the fastest growing events worldwide, so bring your GPS and participate. An avid geocacher will be available to instruct you on how this fun and challenging activity works.
And Just for Fun!
Mounted cowboy shooting, using real 44’s, will be an exciting demonstration you will not want to miss!
We hope to have a hands-on demonstration on how to measure and fit hoof boots, a seminar on equine nutrition and a lawyer to discuss legal issues.
For the little ones, we’ll have organized activities and games the kids and adults alike will enjoy!
Many of us now include a GPS in our saddlebags when we hit the trail. We’re pleased to offer a GPS & Spot seminar at this year’s Rendezvous. This will be one to sign up early for as attendance will be limited!
